As this is a renovation and expansion project of an existing property, and based on the decision to preserve the house’s most genuine and valuable characteristics, the proposal seeks to integrate the new intervention with what already exists, approaching it from a contemporary perspective while paying tribute to the original construction. The intervention is conceived both in temporal terms (old/contemporary) and programmatic terms (residence/art gallery).

The façade is reinterpreted through a “back-light” operation, introducing movement and dynamism as a response to a fast-paced and heavily trafficked street. A sequence of 12 pivoting shutters made of frosted polycarbonate, set within metal frames and illuminated with RGB LED lighting, allows the façade to shift from a closed and hermetic condition to an open and permeable one.

The building is developed primarily in section, through a sequence of stepped patios and floating mezzanines that generate continuous views toward the exterior, the light, the sky, and the vegetation. In this way, greenery becomes an integral part of the project while preserving part of the character of the original house.

Throughout the project, particular attention is given to the points of contact between the “old house” and the “new gallery”, understood as formal and material tensions that add meaning to the design. At the same time, the incorporation of technology, programmable lighting, climate control, and audio systems coexists with noble materials, constructive honesty, and chromatic serenity, creating a container that gives full prominence to the artworks it houses.
